The Arizona Association for Lifelong Learning (AALL) offers scholarships to support the educational and professional growth of its members. These scholarships are designed to assist both student members and professional members, ensuring they have the resources needed to advance in their academic or professional journeys.
Student Scholarships: Available to AALL member students pursuing educational goals, these scholarships support testing fees, certifications, and other academic needs that contribute to personal and professional development.
Professional Scholarships: AALL also provides scholarships for professional members to promote growth within the adult education field. These funds can be used for professional development opportunities, including conferences, workshops, and certifications that enhance skills and expertise.
By offering these scholarships, AALL aims to foster a culture of lifelong learning and professional advancement, ensuring all members have access to the tools they need to succeed.
Applicants must be current, dues-paid AALL members. If not a current member, you must submit a membership application with membership fee with this scholarship application. Scholarship monies are awarded only once each year to a specific individual. Individuals who receive a scholarship are ineligible to apply for and receive one the following year.
When multiple participants apply, and it is deemed that all meet the eligibility, the recipient or recipients may be chosen via a lottery system.
When more than one recipient is chosen for the same or separate events, the amount of the awards will be at the discretion of the committee, considering relevant factors such as the cost of the event, travel involved, or other factors that might influence the amount of award per person.
This is a reimbursement scholarship. After the event, mail appropriate receipts to AALL at PO Box, 16021 Phoenix, AZ 85011-6021 to be reimbursed.
You will be expected to write an article on your professional learning experience for the AALL newsletter.
Applications are processed as they are received, but they must be received no later than three weeks before the event to be considered.
Applications will be based on the following criteria, each weighted at 25% of the final total score:
1. Educational Goals
2. Career Goals
3. Experience
4. Statement describing how this activity will contribute to the goals mentioned above.
Please keep the narrative brief, no more than one page, four paragraphs, addressing the criteria.

This scholarship fund was created in Linda’s name to keep her spirit, legacy and passion for adult education alive in our memories and deeds.
About Linda
Linda was the first Adult Education Family Literacy teacher in the Family Tree Program at Mesa Public Schools. She later served as the district Adult Education and Family Literacy Director. In addition to her work with the school district, Linda taught part time at Chandler Gilbert Community College. In retirement, Linda was instrumental in creating a church-based adult school which continues to provide free classes in GED, ESL and Citizenship preparation.
People who knew her know how passionate she was about adult education and family literacy, and many were inspired by her dedication to help all adults reach their full potential. Her son, Rick Mead, describes Linda:
“Mom had to be a teacher. She often second guessed her profession of choice and the road that led her there, but there was no way she could not have been a teacher. Every second to mom was a teaching experience. Either she was being taught or was teaching others. There was no in-between. She always saw teaching as an adventure. Every culture—Every person—Every story—is an adventure.”
Linda was recognized with many honors throughout her career, but her two proudest were being chosen as a Community Hero and Olympic Torch Bearer in 1996, as the torch-run passed through Phoenix on its way to the Atlanta Olympics, and also being honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award through the Arizona Department of Education and the Arizona Association for Lifelong Learning (AALL).
